Noel Fidel became Of Counsel to the firm in November 2007. Judge Fidel was a member of Division One of the Arizona Court of Appeals from 1987 to 2002 and of the Arizona Superior Court in Maricopa County from 1982-1987. During his years on the bench, Fidel served as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Presiding Civil Judge of the Superior Court, and Chair of the Commission on Judicial Conduct.
After retiring from the bench, Judge Fidel was named the Merriam Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law in 2002-03. He taught first year Torts and upper level Legislation and Statutory Interpretation at the law school from 2002-2008, also serving as Associate Dean from 2003-08.
A former Vista Volunteer, Robert F. Kennedy Fellow, Board Chair of Chicanos Por La Causa, and President of the Dartmouth College Alumni Council and the present Board President of the Florence Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project, Fidel has been honored with the City of Phoenix “Living the Dream” Award for “Courage and Commitment to Human Rights,” the American Jewish Committee “Learned Hand” Public Service Award for “Sustained Contributions to the Advancement of Equality and Democratic Institutions,” and the Maricopa County Bar Association Henry S. Stevens Award for “Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession.”
As a Life Member of the American Law Institute, he has been an Adviser to both the Project on Enterprise Responsibility for Personal Injury and the Restatement of the Law, Third, Torts: Apportionment
Judge Fidel received his A.B. degree from Dartmouth College, his J.D. from Harvard Law School, and an LL.M. in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia College of Law.
