The Employment Law Group focuses on responding quickly to our clients' employment and labor problems, and resolving them in the most practical and cost-effective matter. We recognize that prevention is the most efficient and cost-effective way to handle problems in the workplace. To that end, our employment and labor attorneys emphasize counseling designed to prevent problems from ripening into expensive and time-consuming litigation. Our attorneys advise employers on a broad range of employment-related matters, including hiring, discipline, investigation of unlawful harassment, preventing and responding to claims of discrimination, wage and hour issues, classification of employees, implementing Family & Medical Leave Act policies, covenants not to compete, polygraph examinations, drug testing, termination, terms of employment, and review and drafting of employment policies and procedures, manuals and contracts.
In addition, we regularly handle and defend charges of discrimination before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Arizona Civil Rights Division, as well as equivalent agencies in other states. We have also periodically represented employers before other agencies, including the United States Department of Labor and the Arizona Industrial Commission.
Our attorneys have extensive experience in handling a wide variety of employment-related litigation in state and federal court, including cases involving claims of unlawful harassment, disability and other statutory discrimination, alleged breach of contract of employment, alleged wrongful discharge, fraud, defamation and other employment-related torts, claims for ERISA benefits, wage disputes, and alleged violations of restrictive covenants.
One member of our Employment Law Practice group currently serves as Adjunct Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law of Arizona State University, teaching Employment Law; and has served as an Instructor on Employment Law at the Keller Graduate School of Management, a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Arizona Labor Letter, and an author of the Arizona Employment Law Handbook.
